Sexual Assault Awareness Education, Prevention, and Teal Ribbon

Sexual Assault Awareness uses the ‪‎Teal Awareness Ribbon for its cause. ‪‎Sexual Assault Prevention comes with education about what is ‪unwanted sexual contact and what is ‪sexual consent. The purple and teal awareness ribbon combines sexual assault (teal) and domestic violence (purple) awareness. There are also additional ribbons for sexual abuse and assault. The white awareness ribbon is used for childhood sexual abuse / assault.

 Awareness education will vary depending on the audience. There are different ‪sexual assault ‪awareness campaigns. Here are a few:

• The ‪”‎Denim Day” campaign references an Italian Supreme Court decision that a victim was not ‪raped since she was wearing tight jeans so she must have helped the ‪‎rapist remove the jeans and implying consent. Wearing denim shows protest and bring awareness to what is sexual consent. http://denimdayinfo.org/
• ‪”‎The Clothesline Project” where students write their stories and opinions anonymously on shirts which are then displayed on clotheslines. http://www.clotheslineproject.org/
• ‪”Take Back The Night” event promotes awareness through nighttime rallies, marches, and vigils so that “No one should fear the night or the day. Shatter the Silence. Stop the Violence.” http://takebackthenight.org/
